What are chemical peels?

Chemical peels are solutions applied to the skin to remove/exfoliate top layers at a uniform level to improve overall skin appearance.

How does it work?

A chemical peel is also known as chemexfoliation or dermapeeling.  The procedure involves applying  a solution on your skin (face, neck or hands) and over a period of several days, top and or middle skin layers peel away revealing smoother, softer, more rejuvenated skin.  Most people are great candidates for peels.

Benefits of chemical peels include:

  • Improve overall skin clarity, tone and texture.

  • Reduce-hyperpigmentation

  • Control acne and improve the appearance of acne scars.

  • Reduce the appearance of pore size

  • Soften fine lines and wrinkles

  • Stimulate the production of collagen and elastin for firmer, brighter and more youthful skin

Different chemical solutions and strengths in peels determine the depth of skin penetration which can be superficial, medium or deep.  Type of peel used will depend on degree of skin concerns, skin type and amount of downtime allowed.

Light/superficial (lunchtime) peels

Remove the outermost layer of skin and are often performed in series with combination treatments.  They are perfect with dermaplaning (hyperlink dermaplaning page) . They are best for minor skin concerns.  They often promote a healthy glow.  Downtime is as little as couple hours to couple days.  They can be repeated every 2 weeks.

  • PRO CLINICAL PEEL by Perfect Derma features powerful clinically proven blend of acids and antioxidants for a fresh more youthful appearance.

Medium peels

Remove the outermost layer and upper part of our middle skin layer. They are best for uneven or moderate skin discoloration, age spots, acne scarring and fine-moderate wrinkling.  Recovery takes a week or more.

  • PERFECT DERMA PEEL by Perfect Derma contains unique blend of trichloracetic acid, retinoic acid, salicylic acid, kojic acid, phenol, glutathione and vitamin C.  Glutathione is a well-documented antiaging antioxidant which fights free radical damage , enhances cellular health and inhibits productions of melanin for clearer and brighter skin.  Perfect Dermal Peel can be combined with peel boosters which are a proprietary blend of additional acids to address certain skin concerns for enhanced effect.

  • PURE RETINOL PEEL 4% or 6% by PCA Skin contains Vitamin A which provides skin rejuvenation by promoting a clear complexion and even skin tone.  It reduces wrinkles, discoloration and smoothes skin texture.  It also contains powerful antioxidants which include Marigold Extract, Silybum Marianum Fruit Extract, Olea Europaea Fruit Oil and Vitamin E to fight free radical damage while aiding skin rejuvenation. Patients should expect dramatic peeling and possibly sheeting beginning two to three days post-treatment lasting approximately 7 days.

If you have a history of cold sores you may need pre-treatment with antiviral medications. Also discontinue topical vitamin A/Retinoids or other skin irritants 5 days prior to treatment
  • Is it painful?
There is some discomfort depending on needle depth used. Numbing cream can be used although it is not always necessary
